AUDITION FAQs
How long should my monologue be?
60-90 seconds. Keep it short, sweet & strong. When in doubt, go shorter.
If you run over, we’ll give you a gentle cut-off at 90.
Where can I find monologues?
We like to start online, then follow up by asking a theatre friend—it’s the best of both worlds.
Do I need to be off-book?
We recommend it. Do your best and come as prepared as you can.
What are sides?
Sides are selected excerpts from a script that actors use for auditions. They are usually provided by the director.
How long should my song be?
16-32 bars or roughly 30-60 seconds.
Do I need sheet music?
Yes, if you’d like our accompanist to play for you! We can also accommodate tracks.
Do I need a track?
Only if you prefer it, or don’t have sheet music.
Does my song have to be from a musical?
Any style is welcome, but a song from a musical is usually your best bet for auditions.
What is a movement audition?
A movement audition lets us see you learn a simple combination and demonstrate your movement on stage. No dance experience needed—just come ready to move!
What should I wear?
Don’t stress—just wear clothes you can move easily in, like sweats, leggings, or sneakers. We care about how you move, not what you’re wearing.
